CHAPIN aka JORDAN CEMETERY
NEĽ, Section 7, T15N-R11W-3PM
The burials listed here are only a small part of the interments in this cemetery. Chapin cemetery is used for current burials and no attempt is made here to include all known burials. This list is believed to be as complete as possible, however, from 1872 through 1911. This list was taken from death certificates in the Morgan County Clerk's office, obituaries in the Jacksonville Journal and from tombstone readings in the cemetery. During the 1930s or the 1940s the cemetery gradually came to be known as "Chapin Cemetery" and the sign at the entrance saying "Jordan Cemetery" was removed. Jordan Church was located here prior to its removal. Chapin Cemetery is adjacent to U. S. Route 67 and Illinois Route 104. On the south side of the highway, two miles east of Chapin and about ˝ mile west of Mauvaisterre Creek. The cemetery is in the northeast quarter of Section 7 in Township 15 N Range 11 W. It is an incorporated cemetery. An additional list at the end of these interments includes the names and dates of burial (from cemetery records) of those individuals buried between 1952 and approximately the end of 1989. As soon as the weather is cooler, a new reading of the entire cemetery will be completed and posted in place of this partial listing.
